Keep a List of Your Writing Ideas

For those moments when you’ve consciously generated writing ideas, for when you’ve been doing something unrelated and a writing idea comes to you, or when you’ve already been writing and a related (or unrelated) writing idea occurs to you, keep track of your ideas by compiling a list.

Keep your list of writing ideas somewhere where you can easily add to it, can see it, and be inspired by it.* At your most prolific you may have a list of 10 or more writing ideas, some of which may never be followed up, but others may become your next big project.

By regularly revisiting, updating and adding to your list of writing ideas, you can ensure it still reflects your current priorities and interests. And the simple act of keeping a list will provide you with a rich pool of writing ideas to draw on the next time you have/make time to write or are looking for writing inspiration.

* In case you were wondering, I keep my list of writing ideas pinned to the wall next to my desk.
