Sometimes you’ll have an abundance of writing ideas, and other times you’re likely to feel that you’d benefit from taking a few minutes to generate or gather together writing ideas that may have been bubbling away underneath the surface.
So this is your invitation to set yourself a five-minute timer with the intention of noting down any and all ideas that come to mind while thinking about what you’d like to write about.*
You’re likely to find the first few ideas come relatively easily, perhaps because you believe that they’re what you should be writing about. The next few ideas may feel a little forced or unformed and I invite you to not self-filter yourself, but to keep generating and recording your thoughts and ideas. The more writing ideas you generate, the more unexpected and potentially exciting your writing ideas are likely to be.
Giving yourself a specific but limited amount of time, such as five-minutes, can be really helpful in ensuring the task doesn’t feel too onerous.
Once you’ve completed your five-minutes, take a look back over your list and see what you’ve written. Which ones do you feel most excited about, that spark your interest, or make you want to get started straight way?
Be sure to keep a list of all the writing ideas you’ve generated as a source of inspiration the next time you’re looking for a writing project.
